Village Merchants
One Google reviewer describes Village Merchants as an “infinite mystery hole,” and we couldn’t agree more. This is one of our favorite consignment stores in the area, and if you visit, you’ll soon see why. Village Merchants is a pretty large store made up of two floors, a covered outdoor space that is only accessible through the store, and a patio. The downstairs is mostly comprised of tchotchkes and knick knacks, games, clothes, kitchen ware, and larger pieces of furniture. The upstairs is mostly comprised of vintage goods, homeware, baby/kids clothing, and smaller pieces of furniture. When you’re inside, don’t forget to look up! Village Merchants hangs its paintings and art closer to the ceiling.
The outside section is reserved for garden supplies, outdoor/athletic equipment, and outdoor decor. On sunny/rainless days (which, let’s be honest – is not very often) the patio directly outside of Village Merchants usually has a wide range of eclectic furniture.

House of Vintage
One of the biggest thrift stores in Portland, House of Vintage is a little bit on the pricier side…but, don’t worry: it’s on the list of the best thrifting in Portland for a good reason. The clothes are of great quality; this vintage shop is truly a gem.
This second-hand shop specializes in vintage clothing, accessories, and shoes, and it’s truly one of the best thrift shops for unique finds. House of Vintage is a collective of over sixty local vendors in a 13,000 square foot warehouse space. Each of the local vendors organizes the look and feel of their space, so you’ll notice some different styles as you peruse the shop.

William Temple House Thrift Store
William Temple House Thrift Store is a fairly run-of-the-mill thrift store that has everything you could ever need: clothes, furniture, books, homeware, decor, and more. They have a very helpful staff, a house kitty, AND the profits go to those in need. This is one of the best thrift stores in the area for household goods and household items.

Red White and Blue Thrift Store
βThe Red White and Blue Thrift Store supports and employs veterans, so that’s your first feel-good reason to come shop here. The second feel-good reason to shop here is that it’s a great place to find a bargain. The clothing is color-coordinated (though, not sorted by size) so it’s a great place to find specific items to fit in your color palette.
They have 20 – 50% off certain sectionsΒ every day, so make sure to take a good look when you’re there!Β
The PNW Report Tip
A word of advice: this thrift store is cash only.

Buffalo Exchange
βBuffalo Exchange isn’t specific to Portland; in fact, they have locations all over the United States. However, we would be remiss to not include this in a list about the best thrifting in Portland, because they really do have great deals on brands.
This store has slightly higher prices than most on this list, but it makes up for it with its high quality clothes and brand name attire that it offers.

Red Light Clothing Exchange
βThis is a nifty little thrift store in the Belmont neighborhood. We’re particular to Red Light Clothing Exchange, because they separate fast fashion from vintage fashion. That way, it’s easy to find exactly what you’re looking for!
They also have a $10 section, so make sure to sneak a peek before you leave. This $10 section is one of the best places to treasure hunt in Portland Oregon!

Red Fox Vintage
βIt’s so easy to get lost in Red Fox Vintage…but, like, in a good way. There are so many little booths and corners…you can basically find anything here! From vinyl records to locally made goods and jewelry to band tour t-shirts to manga to fake chest hair (yes, you read that right)…this place is an absolute treasure trove.

βTwo words: vintage t-shirts. This is the place to go for vintage t-shirts, and they’re incredibly reasonably priced as well. In fact, they have a huge inventory of vintage items at some of the best prices we’ve ever seen in the Portland area. Major plus: this is one of the most well-organized thrift stores we’ve ever been to. Enjoy!

Rebuilding Center
βThe Rebuilding Center isn’t quite the same as the other thrift stores on this list, but it is still an incredible second-hand store. The Rebuilding Center bills itself as a climate justice nonprofit organization that makes repair and reuse affordable for all. Their store has donated reclaimed home improvement and building materials that are listed at very affordable prices.
In addition to having over 30,000 square feet dedicated to building materials, the Rebuilding Center also has several classes they offer to the general public that focus on various building and home improvement skills.
ReBuilding Center is a hardware store, school, date night activity, and more, all wrapped in one.

The Goodwill Bins
βAh, the infamous Goodwill Bins. If you’ve lived in Portland for a while, you’ve likely heard this name being floated around in conversation. The Goodwill Bins are where the surplus items that either (a) don’t sell in the local Goodwill stores or (b) have never even made it to the local Goodwill stores.
Officially, the Goodwill Bins are known as the Goodwill Outlets. But they’re called the Goodwill Bins, most often, because, well, that’s what they are. When you walk into the Goodwill Bins, the clothes are stored in giant bins. They’re completely disorganized and haphazardly strewn about in the bins, but there they area. The clothes at Goodwill Bins are sold per pound (1-25 pounds is $2.19 per pound, and 25+ pounds is $1.29 per pound), whereas the other items (such as CDs, books, furniture, and videos) are charged at a flat rate per item.
You will need to do a lot of sorting through the bins, but every now and then, you’ll find a treasure. We highly, highly, highly recommend that you bring rubber gloves to sort through the clothes at the Bins. After all, you never know what’s in there!
πThe Goodwill Bins | 5950 NE 122nd Ave, Portland, OR 97230
