Your Guide To The Best Oregon Coffee Brands (June 2024)

Coffee enthusiasts know that the coffee industry is booming on the West Coast, more specifically, in Oregon. It used to be that you couldn’t get a good cup of coffee anywhere other than New York or Boston, but that is just simply no longer the case. The West Coast is a hot bed for good coffee and new coffee shops; until recently, Washington was thought to be at the forefront of this coffee movement. After all, Starbucks, Victrola’s Coffee Lab, and Seattle’s Best Coffee all originated in Seattle, Washington. But we’re not here to talk about Washington. We’re here to talk about Oregon coffee brands, because Oregon is an emerging powerhouse in the coffee industry.

Spending time in the Beaver State and craving a little bit of caffeine? Here’s your guide to the best Oregon coffee brands:

Good Coffee

Even though the name is “Good Coffee,” it really should be called “Great Coffee.” Good Coffee has a high commitment to sustainability and community impact. For example, Good Coffee recently launched a concept in Portland called COMMON GOOD. In this initiative, Good Coffee partnered with Kairos, a local elementary school that offers boutique education to children who may not have had access to that level of education.

For this COMMON GOOD concept, members of the Good Coffee Team visited third graders from Kairos for a coffee blend building activity. In this activity, the third graders completed a chocolate, fruit, caramel, and nut tasting. After deciding on which flavors would taste best together, Good Coffee created the COMMON GOOD blend using the notes that the Kairos children preferred most.

As far as the coffee, Good Coffee highly prioritizes creating coffee for the sake of pleasure. The coffee is full-flavored and easy to drink, and their espresso drinks (especially the seasonal ones!) are top notch. The team at Good Coffee maintains great relationships with their coffee producers and has a high focus on sustainability in providing their own beans.

Heart Roasters

Founded in 2009 by Rebekah and Wille Yli-Luoma, Heart Coffee Roasters built its business around the idea that a great cup of coffee should accentuate the distinctive fruit flavors found in coffee. Since their opening, the Heart Roasters team has placed a large emphasis on building direct relationships with specialty coffee producers from Brazil, Guatemala, Colombia, Honduras, Ethiopia, and Kenya. The Heart team visits their producers throughout the year to maintain a fair and open working relationship. The green coffee farmed by the Heart Roasters producers is secured during the peak time of the year to ensure the vibrancy of the coffee beans. They travel to the origin of the coffee beans throughout and during harvest to support their producers and to assist with the best crop selection and quality control.

All of Heart’s coffee offerings have a dedicated roast profile that accentuates the unique flavors in each bean. During the roasting process, Heart focuses on even roasting development to maximize the sweetness without baking the coffee dry or over-roasting it. This results in a keen pronunciation of the fruit tones and richness. All roasted bags are tagged with a batch number and roast date, so that the final product can be checked for quality. Any of the roast batches that don’t match Heart Roaster’s commitment to quality are donated to a local food bank in Portland. This is what makes Heart Roasters one of the top Oregon coffee brands you should check out.
